Haifa’s return to SEE DJERBA marks a significant evolution in her artistic journey. Since her debut as a young master in 2019, her practice has been characterized by an ongoing fascination with the interplay of materials, light, and reflective surfaces. This persistent exploration has become a hallmark of her oeuvre, driving her to push the boundaries of perception and materiality.
In her latest installation, Haifa Ouerfelli continues exploring the tension field of light, light-reflecting mirrors, and space. Her choreography features compositions of colored beams of light.
Salt crystals are a new element in spatial composition. Their physical properties make them an incense material for artists working with light. Natural salt crystals can create complex, dynamic, and often unpredictable interactions with light sources.
By exploring the physical properties of salt with an aesthetic interest, Haifa directs attention to a critical material in Djerba’s natural and cultural heritage that is often overlooked.
