Pieces of Water
“Pieces of Water” is an artwork that refers to the pollution of the sea by projecting water-inspired animations onto waste materials like aluminum and plastic. These materials, collected locally from the sea, serve as reflective surfaces that create distorted reflections, filling the space with light and movement.
The installation mimics the fluid, mesmerizing play of light on water. However, the twist lies in the choice of materials — environmental detritus becomes the canvas, turning discarded waste into a medium of artistic expression. As the animations interact with the waste surfaces, the reflections shift and move, enhanced by a motor-driven structure that suspends and rotates the materials in space. This movement emphasizes the fluid, ever-changing nature of water, now tainted by the waste that has become an inescapable part of it.
“Pieces of Water” serves as a dynamic metaphor for the current environmental crisis. The distorted reflections are not merely a visual spectacle; they symbolize the pervasive presence of pollution in our natural environment, particularly in bodies of water. This artwork is a poignant reminder that there is no longer water on Earth, such as microplastics, free from contamination. By using waste materials to depict water, the installation underscores the harsh reality that our most vital resource is now inseparably linked with the pollution that threatens its purity.
