Shortcut (2024)

“Shortcut” is a video artwork that explores the body’s consciousness within its environment. It is a series that explores the esthetic tension between human figures and remote landscapes. One version of the work is based on a series of walks in the mountainous landscapes in Southern Spain, and another is set in the Wadden Sea on the Dutch coast.

By contrasting solitary human figures with expansive vistas, the work uses the body as a tool for artistic inquiry. This approach evokes elements of romanticism — the paintings of Caspar David Friedrich might be one of the possible associations — while maintaining a contemporary perspective, encouraging reflection on the complex relationship between humans and nature.

In “Shortcut,” landscapes serve as mirrors of mental states, fostering a dialogue between external environments and internal consciousness. The installation illuminates how our bodies inhabit and interact with the world. Through this audiovisual experience, “Shortcut” invites contemplation on our place in the world and the subtle ways our bodies engage with our surroundings, blending elements of performance, landscape art, and philosophical inquiry.
